Smart lock installer on Fleurieu Peninsula
Fleurieu Locksmith installs smart locks across the Fleurieu Peninsula, including homes, businesses, front gates, offices, Airbnb’s, storerooms, and apartment doors. We’ll help you choose a lock that fits the purpose, suits your budget, and complies with relevant standards. We’ll ensure it's installed correctly and supported locally.
What are smart locks?
All of our recommended smart locks are battery powered, with selected models featuring mechanical emergency key override and/or emergency external power options, helping ensure access can still be restored if the batteries become depleted. Many models also incorporate low-battery warnings, tamper alerts and other security features for additional peace of mind.
For residential properties, including Airbnb and short-term accommodation, smart locks can provide convenient keyless entry, temporary access codes and simplified guest access management. For commercial properties, selected smart locking systems can provide advanced access control, audit trails and the ability to manage multiple users or secure different areas of a property.
Smart locks, in short
- Smart door locks often include app control and user tracking
- Digital door locks use PIN pads, RFID tags, or keycards
- Keyless door locks remove the need for a physical key altogether
- Fingerprint door locks provide biometric access with quick entry and high security
Smart lock services for homes

We help homeowners upgrade to keyless door locks, digital door locks, and fingerprint door locks that suit their front doors, side gates, or garage entries. If you want to avoid hiding a spare key, manage access for family or guests, or make it easier to unlock the door with your phone, we'll show you a solution that works for your space and lifestyle.

Frequently asked questions about smart locks
What is a smart lock and how does it work?
A smart lock is a modern locking device that lets you control access without a traditional key. Depending on the model, you can unlock your door using a PIN code, fingerprint, mobile app, access card, or even voice command via smart home systems like Google Assistant or Alexa. Many smart locks also allow you to manage access remotely for example, you can let a guest in while you’re away or monitor who has entered and when.
Some models still include a keyhole as a backup, while others are fully keyless. They’re powered by batteries, and many have alerts for low battery or tampering. Installation must match your door type, use case, and compliance requirements which is why expert advice is essential.
Can smart locks be installed on any type of door?
Most smart locks are designed to suit standard timber or aluminium doors, but not all are compatible with every door type. Fire-rated, glass, and heritage doors may require specific models or additional components to comply with building codes.
Fleurieu Locksmith will assess your existing door, frame, and lock hardware to recommend the most suitable product for your needs. It ensures the smart lock works properly, meets safety and accessibility requirements, and avoids damage to the door during installation.
What are the best smart locks for Airbnb or short-stay rentals?
For Airbnb and short-stay properties, smart locks with keyless PIN entry, remote management, and temporary code generation are ideal. Brands like Yale, Eufy, Schlage, and Lockly offer models that allow you to create time-limited access codes for each guest without needing to meet them in person or worry about lost keys.
We also install double-sided gate smart locks, fire-rated models for apartments, and smart locks that integrate with booking systems or smart home hubs. These features help automate check-ins, improve guest experience, and boost security.
Can smart locks be used on gates or outdoor doors?
Yes, many smart locks are weather-resistant and designed for external gates, sheds, and garages. These models often have IP ratings that ensure protection against rain, dust, and exposure to sunlight.
For side or front gates, we recommend double-sided smart locks, which prevent someone from reaching over or through the gate to open it from the inside. It’s beneficial for properties with pets, children, or back-lane access.
We’ll help you choose a model that’s suitable for outdoor use and install it to ensure durability and security.
Do smart locks work with Google Home or other smart systems?
Many smart locks now integrate with Google Home, Apple HomeKit and Amazon Alexa. It means you can unlock your door via voice control or a smartphone app, receive notifications when the door is accessed, or connect your smart lock to other devices, such as security cameras or alarm systems.
Compatibility varies between models, so we’ll guide you through options that meet your goals. If your priority is smart home integration, we recommend brands such as Yale, Schlage, Lockly, and Eufy, which offer excellent support for these platforms.
Are smart locks secure?
Yes, when properly installed and used, smart locks are very secure. Most reputable brands use encryption technology and tamper-resistant components. Some are rated to ANSI/BHMA Grade 1, which is the highest level of residential security.
For added peace of mind, many models have auto-lock, tamper alerts, and log tracking to record who accessed the door and when. If you still want a traditional backup, hybrid models with a mechanical key override are available.
We only install products from trusted brands and provide expert advice to match the right lock to your security needs and building type.
What happens if the battery dies or something goes wrong?
Most smart locks will alert you when the batteries are running low. Battery life typically ranges from 9 to 18 months, depending on usage and connectivity. Models with built-in Wi-Fi may require more frequent battery replacement.
If the batteries become completely flat, most models provide backup access through an emergency key override and/or a USB-C emergency power connection. We’ll also show you how to replace the batteries and use the backup access features during setup.
